HARDACHES-CAMPCOPE-7.2.16

Sunday 7th February // 1pm //All-ages

Six String Sounds presents:
EARLY SHOW, so you can get to laneway for the Smitties/V.Soho love fest

“2015 was a big year for The Hard Aches. Release of their debut album PHEREMONES, massive tour with H A N N A H B A N D, melting faces at Sydneys blood sweat & beers and Adelaides Stonecutters festivals, and rounding the country again selling out venues such as The Factory Floor, and The Corner Hotel with The Bennies

2016 is set to be even bigger. Shows in regional VIC with Frenzal Rhomb & Clowns before setting off on the road again in a headline run, introducing interstate friends to Melbourne act CAMP COPE.

While most easily described as the full band version of indie folkstress Georgia Maq, Camp Cope bring a lot more to the table than just that. Still in their relative infancy, the three piece have already racked up supports with many of their heroes, as well as a highlight appearance at this years Poison City Weekender. This is their first national tour, coinciding with a residency at Old Bar.

Stay tuned for more music to be released shortly..”

FOREVR-29.1.16

Friday 29th January // 7pm // All-ages

“Brisbane shoegaze/electronic duo FOREVR are stoked to visit Sydney for the first time. They’ll be launching their debut 7″, ‘Shoegazer’, with support from SUIIX and Broadcasting Transmitter.

FOREVR are a band combining their love of real shoegaze with electronics to produce lush, loud, beautiful noise larger than the sum of its parts. Following the success of their 2015 live four-track EP DEMONSTRATION, ‘Shoegazer’ builds on FOREVR’s foundations with towers of glistening electronica. Donovan Miller’s (No Anchor, Roku Music) underwater guitar and Sam George-Allen’s (Mega Ogre, Low Season) smoke-wisp voice thread ribbons through a scaffold of arpeggiator, pulsing bass and rapid-fire digidrums. This 7″ is the first glimpse of where their electronic ambitions are leading them, and the first taste of their self-produced debut album due mid-2016.”

DAVID-LEAUPEPE-etc-31.1.16

Sunday 31st January // 2pm // All-ages

“It’s the place where we’ve spent countless hours laughing, joking, telling tall tales and downing long-necks. The garden at Black Wire is a universe unto itself, and so this January we’re bringing the gig out there for a Sunday afternoon of unplugged acoustic entertainment.

Opening the show will be ALLISON GALLAGHER. You may have recently seen Allison fronting a new band, Skin Prison, with the gents from Frame 313. You may have also seen her playing solo acoustic, which she’ll be doing here. Expect some heartfelt originals and maybe a few killer covers.

Next up is someone who’s no stranger to the surrounds of Black Wire – former Newcastle kid and now official Sydney-sider SPENCER SCOTT. He’s opened for the likes of Wil Wagner, Georgia Maq and the Dead Kennedys (no shit!); and he most recently put out a top-notch 7-inch split with the aforementioned Georgia. Let’s make this guy feel welcome in his new home.

Sandwiched nice and tight in the middle is NOTHING RHYMES WITH DAVID. He has slowly but surely been working toward the release of his second album, Things Work Out for People Like You, and this show will effectively (and finally!) launch it. Forget Fat Guy Wears Mystic Wolf Shirt – this is Fat Guy Wears Heart On Sleeve music right here.

The wanderers of THE BUTTON COLLECTIVE are stopping in for their first-ever appearance at Black Wire. Having traversed up and down the coast playing their sea-shanties and folksy ballads across near every pub and folk festival you could imagine, a new EP is on the horizon and they’ll be sharing tracks from it – as well as a bunch of others. Y’arr!

Finally, headlining the show – and also making his debut – is DAVID LE’AUPEPE. You might know David as the lead singer, guitarist, keyboardist and primary songwriter of GANG OF YOUTHS, who have had a remarkable year playing sold-out national tours, scooping up an ARIA nod or two and releasing one of the most acclaimed albums of the year in The Positions. David will be doing a rare solo set, stripping back his songs right to their very skeleton for all to enjoy.

It’s AA, BYO and $10. Doors are at 2 and music will start from 2:30. This is going to be a really interesting experience/experiment and hopefully a lot of fun. Join us!”

OILY-BOYS-23.1.16

Saturday 23rd January // 7pm // All-ages

OILY BOYS
Sydney’s most precious punk divas play their last show for a while before going into ~recording mode~ and then ~hustle mode~ trying to find someone wild enough to put out a 12” EP :’)

https://oilyboys.bandcamp.com/

RANGOONS
You know them by now. Cult rock that spans punk, psych, and sometimes country; fronted by a Svengali Neil Hamburger?? Always a fun time.

OVERMEN (ACT)
Sydney may have da boice, but Canberra has da men. Frantic and snotty punk from these übermenschen that kinda reminds me of The Freeze at times.

ALOHA UNITS
Shit, I feel like I haven’t seen these guys in aaaaages, or that they’re just not playing that much anymore. Super catchy post-punk via dolewave.
